China could influence Russia to end the war – Kallas
Russia is not currently in the strongest position, so it should be encouraged to engage in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. This was stated by Kaja Kallas, who emphasized that China could play a role in this process. According to a European Truth correspondent in Brussels, the EU’s top diplomat made these remarks on Monday, May 18, before the start of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on development issues.
Kallas believes that Russia is currently in a weak negotiating position regarding ending the war in Ukraine.
“As for Ukraine, we see that peace talks have reached an impasse,” Callas emphasized.
She noted that “nothing is happening” at the moment in the negotiation process aimed at establishing peace in Ukraine.
“At the same time, we see that Russia is not in the strongest position, and we need to make efforts to get them to the negotiating table,” the EU’s top diplomat stated.
Responding to a question about China’s potential role in the peace talks, Kaja Kallas noted that “China, which has close ties with Russia, plays a role here that could truly convince them to stop this war.”
