In Germany, a light aircraft crashed into the roof of a residential building
A plane crash occurred in the German town of Handerkes in the state of Lower Saxony—a light aircraft crashed into a residential building and pierced its roof. At the time of the crash, no one was inside the building, so there were no casualties on the ground.
According to police, one person died as a result of the incident, and it is not yet known whether that person was the pilot.
Based on available information, there was one other person on board, but they have not yet been found. Rescue workers are using drones to aid in the search.
It is impossible to enter the house by conventional means, as it is likely to collapse. The aircraft will have to be lifted by a crane, and this operation will take several hours.
The aircraft’s cockpit is completely destroyed, the wings have been torn off, and debris has fallen to the ground.
At the time of the crash, the family living in the house was not inside.
Residents living within a 100-meter radius of the crash site were evacuated from their homes. For safety reasons, power was temporarily cut off along the entire stretch of road where the damaged structure is located.
According to online flight data, the plane took off from Bremen in the morning, landed at the Ganderkesee airfield after a 12-minute flight, and took off again shortly thereafter. About six minutes later, it crashed into a residential building.
The Tagesschau news service reports that the crashed aircraft was manufactured by the Italian company Tecnam. The cause of the crash is not yet known.
