UAE announces projected dates for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in 2027
In the United Arab Emirates, Ramadan in 2027 is projected to begin on February 8, while the Eid al-Fitr holiday may start on March 9 or 10. The final dates will depend on the sighting of the new moon, The National reports.
Projected start of Ramadan
According to astronomical calculations by the UAE Astronomy Centre, the month sacred to Muslims is expected to begin on February 8 and last 29 or 30 days. Accordingly, the final day of Ramadan may fall on March 8 or 9.
The Islamic calendar is based on lunar cycles, so the beginning and end of months are confirmed after the sighting of the crescent new moon. In the UAE, the moon-sighting committee checks for its appearance on the 29th day of the Islamic month and then announces the start of the next one.
During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset. The evening breaking of the fast is called iftar, while the pre-dawn meal is called suhoor.

Public holidays for Eid al-Fitr
If Ramadan lasts 29 days, Eid al-Fitr is expected to run from March 9 to 11, 2027. If the fasting month lasts 30 days, Eid al-Fitr is projected to begin on March 10.
UAE legislation provides employees in the public and private sectors with three paid public holidays during the first three days of Shawwal, the month following Ramadan. If Ramadan lasts 30 days, its 30th day will also be declared a public holiday.
Under this scenario, the break will last from March 9 to 12 and, together with the weekend, may amount to six days. These dates are preliminary and will require official confirmation after the sighting of the new moon.
