The Patriot Games were held in Ohio to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States
The Patriot Games—a national sports competition for teenagers marking the 250th anniversary of the United States—took place in Ohio. U.S. President Donald Trump attended the event’s closing ceremony on Tuesday, August 11, according to The Guardian World.
The organizers described the Patriot Games as a competition designed to celebrate the character, determination, and excellence that define the American spirit. ESPN, which broadcast the games, stated that participants were to demonstrate their skills in popular American sports.
A total of 120 teenagers aged 14 to 17 took part in the competition: two representatives from each state, as well as two from some U.S. territories. They competed for college scholarships totaling $250,000: $125,000 each for the top male and female participants.

The program included catching a tennis ball, hitting a stationary ball mounted on a stand, serving a volleyball over a net, a tug-of-war, and the Victory Hoops competition. In the latter event, participants shot basketballs into a hoop. The final stage was the “Freedom Final”—an obstacle course featuring balancing exercises, hand-walking, and rings.
Trump appeared at the finale to the sound of fanfare and against a backdrop of fireworks, after which he spoke with the host. He mentioned other events planned for the 250th anniversary of the United States, including a car race in Washington and the July 4th celebrations. A White House spokesperson stated that the Patriot Games, the Great American State Fair, “Salute to America,” and other events are intended to help revive patriotism and national pride.
