Demand for resorts in the Krasnodar Krai has plummeted in Russia due to drone attacks

Demand for hotels in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai during the May holidays has fallen by 20.7% compared to last year. Overall, the country is seeing a significant decline in domestic tourism due to a number of security concerns and infrastructure issues.

This is reported by Russian media, citing data from booking services.

According to estimates by the Travelline analytics system, the number of hotel bookings in Russia for the period from April 27 to May 11 decreased by 11.1% year-over-year. Meanwhile, the average room rate fell by 2.2% and stands at approximately 9,800 rubles per night. A drop in demand has been recorded in all key tourist destinations.

The Krasnodar Krai showed the sharpest decline—down 20.7%. Next are the Nizhny Novgorod Region (–19.7%), the Yaroslavl Region (–19.5%), and the temporarily occupied Crimea (–14.2%). Overall, according to estimates by the Association of Tour Operators of the Russian Federation, demand in the country has fallen by approximately 15%.

It is also noted that one of the factors contributing to the decline in the appeal of resorts was the situation in Tuapse, where drone attacks and fires at oil refining facilities have been reported in recent weeks. According to reports, the region experienced air pollution from harmful substances, including benzene, and petroleum products leaked into local water bodies and the Black Sea.

A decline in tourist traffic to Sochi had also been noted earlier. Industry representatives attribute this to regular restrictions on airport operations due to security risks and flight cancellations, which complicate access to the resorts.

As a reminder, on the night of Thursday, Ukrainian drones attacked Dzerzhinsk in the Nizhny Novgorod region of the Russian Federation. The likely target was a strategic explosives plant. A series of explosions rang out in the city, and smoke rose above the facility following the strike.

As a reminder, on the night of April 23, drones from the SBU’s “Alpha” Special Operations Center struck the “Gorky” oil pumping station in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region. The attack caused a massive fire and resulted in damage to infrastructure.

In addition, five oil tanks were hit in the attack. On the night of April 21, drones from the SBU’s “Alpha” Special Operations Center struck the “Samara” line-production-dispatch station in Russia, after which a massive fire broke out there.

In the temporarily occupied Crimea, drones attacked an oil depot in the Kozacha Bay area of Sevastopol. The strike caused a fire.

On the morning of April 18, drones attacked an oil refinery in the city of Novokuybyshevsk in Russia’s Samara Oblast. The strike caused a fire at the facility.
