The U.S. has proposed four candidates to Zelenskyy for the position of ambassador
An American analyst has presented four possible candidates for the position of Ukrainian ambassador to the United States. In her view, the future diplomat should combine strategic thinking, political flexibility, emotional intelligence, and the ability to build long-term relationships with the American political establishment.
Melinda Haring, a member of the editorial board of the authoritative international online analytical, who is also a senior advisor to the Ukrainian-American charitable foundation Razom for Ukraine and a senior research fellow at the Atlantic Council think tank.
“You are facing an extremely important decision regarding the appointment of Ukraine’s next ambassador to the United States. No one envies the person who takes on this task. It is one of the most demanding diplomatic posts in the world, where success is expected, mistakes are subject to criticism, and political realities change rapidly,” Haring told Zelenskyy.
She added that she has never hesitated to offer advice when she believed it would serve Ukraine’s interests.
“The person who can continue to rebuild and strengthen relations between the U.S. and Ukraine must be eloquent, fluent in idiomatic English, and capable of building trust among America’s diverse political and religious communities. Above all, the next ambassador must possess emotional intelligence, patience, resilience, a sense of humor, and an unwavering commitment to building relationships,” the expert wrote.
She noted that Serhiy Kyslytsia, deputy head of the Office of the President, might seem like an obvious candidate.
“However, I believe that appointing him to Washington would be a mistake. Ukraine needs him exactly where he is working now. Few diplomats are held in higher regard—or cause more concern in the Kremlin. He remains one of Ukraine’s strongest negotiators,” Haring writes.
In her opinion, there are four candidates for the post of Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.S. who are capable of working effectively with Republicans and Donald Trump’s inner circle.
According to the analyst, they are: former Member of Parliament Pavlo Unguryan; entrepreneur and politician Serhiy Gusovsky; Member of Parliament Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union; and businessman Andriy Stavnitser.

The decision to revoke Poland’s highest state honor, the Order of the White Eagle, from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not a unilateral act by the president. Under Polish procedure, the president may initiate the revocation of an award, but the corresponding act requires the countersignature (co-signature) of the Prime Minister of Poland.
