A Warsaw lawyer faces up to 8 years in prison for threatening Polish officials

In Poland, a court has ordered the three-month detention of a 48-year-old prominent Warsaw lawyer who sent false reports to the security services alleging that plots were being hatched to assassinate the country’s president and foreign minister. The perpetrator disguised his actions by impersonating other people, including former high-ranking officials, and used forged documents to mislead the investigation.

This was reported by Interior Minister Marcin Kervinsky, according to RMF 24.

The suspect has been formally charged with seven counts, including the theft of personal data, concealment of third parties’ official documents, illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, as well as knowingly false reports of threats to the lives of top state officials. Investigators determined that the suspect had attached illegally obtained identity cards, driver’s licenses, and residence permits belonging to others to his letters. In one such shipment, police also discovered ammunition intended to compromise innocent people.

During a search of the lawyer’s residence, law enforcement officers conducted a forced entry and seized a significant amount of physical evidence, including laptops, flash drives, memory cards, mobile phones, and unregistered firearms. Given the totality of the offenses committed and the large-scale attempt to disrupt the work of Polish law enforcement agencies, the detained lawyer faces a severe punishment of up to 8 years in prison.

The Czech Republic and Poland have found an unusual way to settle their “territorial debt.”

Poland also scrambled fighter jets in response to Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
