Her post appeared after the American publication ProPublica released an investigation into the financing of the wedding celebrations. “Our dear friend Umar was incredibly generous in organizing two wonderful celebratory evenings for us to mark our wedding. It was an incredibly generous wedding gift from a friend—a gesture for which we were and remain infinitely grateful,” Bettina Trump wrote.
She did not specify exactly how much these events cost or how much Kremlev paid. At the same time, Bettina emphasized that she does not consider the gift a political gesture. “It’s unfortunate that such a personal and joyful event might be portrayed as something political or sinister—simply because of who this person is or where they come from,” she stated.
