The Kagul Court of Appeals has suspended the decision of the Gagauz People's Assembly to hold elections scheduled for June 21.

The court granted the State Chancellery’s request and suspended the resolutions regarding the setting of the election date, the formation of the electoral body, and the procedure for conducting the elections.
The decision will remain in effect until the case is heard on its merits and may be appealed to the Supreme Court.
Officials in Chisinau claim that the autonomous region’s authorities violated national legislation and exceeded their authority. In particular, disputes arose over differing approaches to the formation of the electoral body.
The crisis surrounding the elections in Gagauzia has been ongoing for over a year—previous attempts to hold the vote were thwarted due to legal inconsistencies.
