Nepal’s post-flood reconstruction estimated at $4.78 billion

Scale of the disaster
The flow of water, mud and debris, compared to a tsunami in the source, began on August 26 at the China-Nepal border. According to the cited data, the disaster claimed the lives of more than 1,410 people, while another 5,651 people are missing.
Nepal’s disaster authority said on Wednesday that 1,367 bodies had been found in the country and 5,132 people were considered missing. In China, according to state media, 43 people were killed and 519 people went missing.

Searches in hydropower plant tunnels
Among those missing are hundreds of foreigners, as well as hundreds of workers at hydropower facilities. Rescuers continue searching for people who may have become trapped in the tunnels of hydropower projects.
Nepal Army spokesperson Raja Ram Basnet told AFP that search-and-rescue operations are continuing in the tunnels of the Trishuli 3A, Trishuli 3B and Chilime projects.
