In Chile, 13 people have died as a result of heavy rains and widespread flooding, and seven others are missing. Due to the severe weather, thousands of people have been evacuated, dozens of homes have been destroyed, and approximately 87,000 customers remain without power.
According to authorities, torrential rains have swept through the country’s central and southern regions, causing flooding, road closures, and significant damage to residential infrastructure.
Alicia Sebrian, head of Chile’s National Emergency Service (Senapred), reported that due to the rainfall, there remains a high risk of further rises in water levels in rivers and streams.
According to official reports, 2,281 people were displaced by the disaster, 81 homes were destroyed, and another 2,761 homes sustained significant damage. Approximately 87,000 people remain without electricity.
Chilean Interior Minister Claudio Alvarado stated that the government plans to initiate disciplinary proceedings against power distribution companies due to delays in restoring electricity service.
In several municipalities across four regions of the country, school classes have been temporarily suspended due to severe weather.
Although the main copper and lithium deposits are located in northern Chile, which was not affected by the storm, some companies were forced to temporarily reduce their operations due to adverse weather conditions.

As a reminder, on the morning of July 22, a heavy downpour hit Odesa, causing widespread flooding in various parts of the city. The storm flooded streets, courtyards, and roads, and some public transportation services were temporarily suspended.
