A special operation was carried out at a German prison due to the threat of an inmate riot – Spiegel

At a correctional facility in the city of Siegburg in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, police carried out a large-scale operation following reports of a possible uprising among inmates. Law enforcement officials assessed the situation and took the necessary security measures.

According to the state’s Ministry of Justice, the situation is currently under control. The operation was prompted by information provided by one of the inmates.

As noted, approximately 100 law enforcement officers were involved in the special operation. Police conducted a search of the facility to verify the information received and identify any prohibited items.

An investigation is currently underway regarding the possible seizure of dangerous or prohibited items, and the investigation into the circumstances of the incident is continuing.

North Rhine-Westphalia Justice Minister Benjamin Limbach stated that any threat of violence in correctional facilities is unacceptable.

If the suspicions are confirmed, the organizers of the riot will face severe consequences in accordance with the law,” he emphasized, according to Spiegel.

As a reminder, in Germany, a Deutsche Bahn security officer derailed a train traveling at a speed of about 120 km/h during a confrontation with a passenger.

On July 19, in the German city of Saarbrücken, 18 people—including adults and children—were stranded in gondolas on a cable car due to a suspected technical malfunction.
