The war in the Middle East has damaged more than 40 energy facilities in nine countries

More than 40 energy infrastructure facilities in nine Middle Eastern countries have sustained "serious or very serious" damage as a result of active hostilities.

This was officially stated by Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), according to Bloomberg.

According to the IEA head, it will take a significant amount of time to restore full operations at oil fields, gas plants, refineries, and major pipelines.

Even after the active phase of the conflict ends, the world will continue to experience prolonged disruptions in global energy supply chains.

Fatih Birol emphasized that the problem extends far beyond a mere shortage of oil and gas for the global market.

“Not only oil and gas, but also the functioning of a number of vital arteries of the global economy has been completely disrupted,” Bloomberg quotes the head of the International Energy Agency as saying.

In particular, the fighting has halted trade in critically important goods, including petrochemical products, fertilizers, sulfur, and helium.

The cessation of supplies of these materials will have extremely serious consequences for the global economy, as they are basic raw materials for many manufacturing sectors.

IEA experts note that the Middle East remains a key hub for ensuring global energy security.

The widespread disruption of infrastructure facilities is creating unprecedented pressure on markets and triggering price volatility felt by consumers worldwide.

As a reminder, global oil prices are rising amid the threat of an energy blockade.

Zelenskyy also called for the confiscation of oil from tankers subject to sanctions.
