The war in Sudan has entered a new phase following massive drone strikes – AFP

At least 28 civilians have been killed in Sudan as a result of two drone strikes, indicating that the three-year conflict between government forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has escalated to the point of daily airstrikes.

This was reported by AFP.

The largest incident occurred on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in North Darfur state. A drone attacked an oil truck in the market of Saraf Omra, causing a massive fire and killing 22 people, including an infant.

Another strike was recorded in North Kordofan, 800 kilometers from RSF strongholds, where a drone hit a truck on the road. The bodies of six dead and 10 wounded were taken to a local hospital. According to AFP, the total number of war casualties in Sudan is already in the tens of thousands, and the number of refugees has reached 11 million. The increased use of drones comes amid international efforts to resolve the conflict and statements about the possible involvement of external actors in supporting the warring parties.

On December 13, six peacekeepers from Bangladesh were killed and eight others wounded in Sudan as a result of a drone attack on a UN base.

Earlier, an Il-76 cargo plane crashed in Sudan. The crew consisted of four people—three citizens of the Russian Federation and one Belarusian.

Also in Sudan, the “Rapid Response Forces” shot down another Russian Il-76 military transport aircraft near the city of Babanus.
