Kobakhidze accused the Biden administration of worsening relations between Georgia and the United States
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the responsibility for the deterioration of Georgian-American relations lies entirely with the previous U.S. presidential administration. At the same time, Tbilisi is counting on the restoration of its strategic partnership with Washington.
Commenting on a recent statement by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding Georgia, Kobakhidze emphasized that the country’s current government is committed to constructive dialogue with the United States.
“If anything has been damaged in Georgian-American relations in recent years, it was 100% the fault of the previous administration. We are ready to discuss all the details related to the restoration of our strategic partnership,” the head of the Georgian government stated.
According to Kobakhidze, the Georgian side remains interested in developing strategic relations with the U.S. and views recent signals from American partners positively.
“That is why we view all signals with optimism, particularly those we heard during the American delegation’s visit to Georgia. All of this sustains our optimism that the strategic partnership between Georgia and the U.S. can be restored. The rest depends on further negotiations,” the prime minister noted.
Kobakhidze also accused the previous administration of U.S. President Joe Biden of pressuring the Georgian government.
According to him, Washington allegedly demanded that Tbilisi implement harsh measures, and then resorted to political pressure and blackmail.
“The previous U.S. administration demanded that Georgia take extremely harsh measures, and then came the pressure, blackmail, and a host of other actions against the Georgian people and the Georgian state. What was destroyed by injustice can only be corrected by a just approach,” Kobakhidze emphasized.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed hope for a change in Georgia’s current political course, which, in his view, could help improve relations between the two countries.

Earlier, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned European Union Ambassador Paweł Herczyński. The reason was his statements regarding the political situation in the country. The ambassador claimed that Georgia was allegedly returning to “dark times,” which prompted a reaction from official Tbilisi and led to his summons to the Foreign Ministry.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated that Tbilisi has no intention of ceding its own territories for the sake of European Union membership. According to him, a similar condition was allegedly imposed on Ukraine during discussions of its European integration.
