Russia plans to intensify its legal battle against the West — Latvian intelligence
Russia intends to intensify its so-called “legal war”—the use of the legal system, legislation, and judicial mechanisms to exert pressure on Western countries.
This is stated in a new report by the Latvian Constitution Protection Bureau (SAB).
According to Latvian intelligence, Moscow may use legal arguments as a pretext to escalate aggressive actions or a potential confrontation with NATO. The main goal is to influence political leaders and officials in Western countries.
One of the tools for such pressure is filing lawsuits in international courts. The SAB reports that Russia is preparing a lawsuit against the Baltic states at the UN International Court of Justice, accusing them of allegedly discriminating against the Russian-speaking population.
According to intelligence reports, the complaint has already been drafted, and preparations for its submission are currently underway.
The Latvian intelligence agency notes that such accusations have long been used by Russian propaganda, but now they could form the basis for specific legal actions at the international level.
The SAB also believes that Russia is attempting to form a united front with friendly states to counter the West. In particular, Russian agencies are studying Iran’s experience in conducting legal proceedings against Western countries.
