Belgium will send troops to Greenland for NATO exercises
Belgium will send its military personnel to Greenland in September to participate in a NATO training mission, according to the country’s Defense Minister, Theo Franken.
The Belgian contingent will join Alliance activities in the region, where NATO is increasing its focus on security and strategic presence.
Franken said that in September, Belgium will send about 30 military personnel to Greenland to participate in a two-week NATO training mission.
According to him, this will take place from September 4 to 18 as part of Arctic Sentry—a NATO mission in the Arctic region.
Arctic Sentry is a NATO military mission launched in February of this year amid growing tensions between the U.S. and Greenland after U.S. President Donald Trump renewed his interest in the island.
He made these remarks during a visit to Iceland on Friday, August 7, according to The Brussels Times.
