North Korean troops crossed the demarcation line; South Korea opened fire

South Korean troops fired warning shots last week after several North Korean soldiers crossed the military demarcation line between the two countries.

According to the publication, several North Korean soldiers crossed the eastern section of the demarcation line last week.

In accordance with established operational procedures, South Korean troops fired warning shots.

Afterward, the North Korean soldiers returned to North Korean territory.

South Korea speculates that the North Korean soldiers may have accidentally crossed the line while on patrol.

It is noted that this is the first recorded instance this year of North Korean troops crossing the demarcation line.

According to the rules, South Korean troops first issue warning messages if North Korean soldiers approach the demarcation line.

If the line is crossed, warning shots are fired.

By comparison, North Korean troops crossed the demarcation line 17 times in 2025.

Yonhap reported this, citing government sources.

Earlier, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung called on North Korea to come to the negotiating table and agree to end the war between the two countries. He also proposed discussing ways to halt Pyongyang’s nuclear program and pledged to work toward the peaceful coexistence of the two Koreas.
