The Canadian Military Band has begun a concert tour of Latvia
The Canadian Armed Forces Central Band will be in Latvia from August 19 to September 3. The band will take part in events marking the 35th anniversary of the Latvian National Guard and will perform in Riga and other cities across the country, according to LSM English.
On August 23 at 1:00 p.m., a festive concert titled “The Land We Defend,” dedicated to the anniversary of the National Guard, will take place on the square near the Freedom Monument in Riga. The Latvian National Guard Band and the Canadian Armed Forces Central Band will perform together at the event.
The Canadian ensemble, led by Captain Christine Davis, will then give free concerts in various regions of Latvia. On August 27 at 7:00 p.m., they will perform at the Krustpils Cultural Center in Jēkabpils, and on August 28 at 6:00 p.m., at the open-air amphitheater of the “Latvia” Concert Hall in Ventspils. The concert program will combine Canadian and Latvian musical traditions, folk motifs, and popular music. The collaboration between the Canadian military musicians and the Latvian National Guard Orchestra began in 2018, when they first visited Latvia. Since then, the two sides have held joint concerts in Latvia and Canada and have facilitated the exchange of professional expertise. The Canadian Armed Forces Band was founded over 80 years ago and is based in Ottawa.
