US manufacturing PMI falls to 54.5 in September — Anadolu Agency
In the United States, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) manufacturing purchasing managers’ index (PMI) fell by 0.1 points in September to 54.5 points, after 54.6 points in August. The figure was slightly below market expectations of 54.8 points, Anadolu Agency reports. The decline in the index indicates a slight slowdown in the expansion of the manufacturing sector.
Dynamics of the index components
The new orders index rose by 1.6 points to 55.3 points. The employment index added 1.5 points and reached 52.7 points.
At the same time, the production index decreased by 1.6 points to 56.7 points.

Growth in manufacturing industries
In September, growth was recorded in 12 manufacturing industries. Leaders included producers of electrical equipment, nonmetallic mineral products, primary metals, and computer products.
A decline in activity was registered in two sectors. A PMI reading above 50 points indicates an expansion of the manufacturing sector, while a reading below 50 points indicates its contraction.
