Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad resigns — NDTV World

In Iran, Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad has resigned. Iranian state media reported that Hamid Bovard, CEO of the state-owned National Iranian Oil Company, was appointed acting minister. This was reported by NDTV World.

Appointment of acting minister

According to a representative of the Iranian president's office, President Masoud Pezeshkian accepted Paknejad's resignation and appointed Bovard as acting head of the Oil Ministry. State media did not specify the reasons for the resignation.

Statement on oil revenues

Paknejad had headed Iran's oil ministry, in an OPEC member country, since August 2024. Before the resignation was reported, state media quoted him as saying that revenues from oil already sold continue to arrive and will continue to arrive.

NDTV World notes that the resignation occurred amid a seven-month war between Iran and the United States, which is putting pressure on the Iranian economy.
