Polish authorities did not warn residents of the missile threat
Residents of Poland’s Lublin Voivodeship, where a missile fell on the night of July 30 following a massive Russian attack on Ukraine, reported a lack of timely information from the authorities. The Polish government responded that, in the face of a potential threat, the top priority is to warn the public in a timely manner, even if all the circumstances of the incident have not yet been established.
During Russia’s massive nighttime attack on Ukraine, air raid sirens sounded in Lublin and several counties of the Lublin Voivodeship.
One local resident said that after the sirens went off, people did not receive enough information about the cause of the alert.
“When the sirens went off in Lublin that night, there was no information. It was nighttime; there was no way to call anywhere. There was no information from the RCB. It wasn’t until a post at 4:03 a.m. on KiKŚ’s Instagram profile and on the X platform that it became clear something was happening—and that it wasn’t a mistake or a drill. And there’s no way you could mistake that siren for an alarm clock. It was terrifying,” she said.
Another resident also noted that there was a lack of detailed official explanations regarding the incident.
Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Hawkowski, stated that during crisis situations, it is not always possible to immediately determine the nature of the threat.
“The siren is wailing because we’re on alert. The siren is wailing because we’re dealing with a crisis situation that cannot be identified in real time,” he explained.
At the same time, the official acknowledged that he understands citizens’ concerns.
“I have a family too; I’d be nervous as well. But if there hadn’t been this alert, if those sirens hadn’t gone off, and if that object hadn’t fallen in a field, but on an apartment building, a residential area, or any place that could cause harm to health—God forbid, death—then we would find ourselves in a much more difficult situation,” Gavkovsky emphasized.
According to the deputy prime minister, Poland can no longer consider itself a country living in a state of complete peace, as Russia’s war against Ukraine poses direct risks to the region’s security.
“Poland is under threat because the war is ongoing,” he stated.
Gavkovsky also noted that the country regularly faces acts of sabotage and other crisis situations, and that the public needs to better understand emergency alerts.
“We have grown accustomed to times of peace. We do not live in times of peace, because we have a neighbor—Russia—that has a clear goal,” the official said.
In closing, he appealed to citizens to take warnings of danger seriously.
“I deeply sympathize with everyone who has felt anxious, but, ladies and gentlemen, Russia will show us no mercy,” concluded Krzysztof Gawkowski.

In Poland, during a massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine on the night of July 29–30, an air raid alert was issued in part of the Lublin Voivodeship. After the alert ended, a crater about 10 meters in diameter and debris from an unidentified object were discovered in a field near the villages of Tarnava-Kolonia and Tokary.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz commented on the missile strike in the Lublin Voivodeship and stated that the country is very close to the war zone. According to him, combat operations are ongoing near Poland, but some people have already stopped taking this threat seriously.
Poland scrambled fighter jets and activated air raid sirens in response to a massive Russian attack on Ukraine.
As a reminder, one person was killed in Kyiv as a result of a Russian strike, and fires broke out in two districts.
Russian drones also killed a person in the Poltava region and attacked a Nova Poshta facility.
In addition, a Russian missile killed a family with many children in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Russia attacked Lviv with missiles: residential buildings were on fire in the city, and there are casualties.
Earlier, Zelenskyy had warned of a possible massive Russian strike tonight.
