Pakistan Navy seizes $750 mln worth of drugs in Arabian Sea — Dawn

The Pakistan Navy reported the seizure of more than 2.8 tonnes of narcotics with an estimated value of $750 million during a joint counter-narcotics operation in the Arabian Sea. As Dawn reports, the operation was carried out by PNS Hunain and PNS Yarmook as part of maritime security measures.

Boat interception

According to a statement by the Pakistan Navy's Directorate of Public Relations, the ships intercepted a suspicious boat during a routine patrol and conducted a boarding operation. During a subsequent inspection, more than 2,800 kilograms of narcotics were found in concealed compartments of the boat.

Pakistan Navy Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf praised the professionalism, vigilance and dedication of the crews of PNS Hunain and PNS Yarmook. The Navy said it intended to continue protecting national maritime interests and maintaining order at sea.

Previous seizures

In June, the Pakistan Navy reported seizing about two tonnes of narcotics off the coast of Gwadar: 1.5 tonnes of hashish and 500 kilograms of a substance called ice. Their value on the international market was then estimated at approximately $215 million.

In October last year, the Pakistani fleet also reported seizing narcotics worth more than $972 million from sailing boats in the Arabian Sea.
