Vučić Calls for Early Parliamentary Elections in Serbia — Reuters
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that early parliamentary elections will be held in the country. The vote is scheduled to take place in October.
“The parliamentary elections will take place on October 18 or 25. The exact date will be announced in the coming days,” Vučić said on television.
Parliamentary elections in Serbia were originally scheduled for December 2027.
The announcement by Vučić, who has been in power for 12 years, came after 18 months of protests against the government and corruption, sparked by the collapse of a canopy at the train station in Novi Sad in November 2024, which killed 16 people.
In his speech, Vučić did not say when he would resign to trigger early presidential elections.
According to Reuters, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić made the announcement.
