Vucic denied plans to introduce a visa requirement for Russian citizens
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has officially stated that the country’s leadership is not currently considering the possibility of abolishing the existing visa-free regime for citizens of the Russian Federation.
According to the Serbian leader, reports in the media about possible restrictions on foreigners are simply misinformation.
The head of the Balkan state emphasized that the Serbian government conducts its foreign policy exclusively on the basis of national interests, not rumors.
“This is the first I’ve heard of it,” Aleksandar Vučić reacted emotionally during his appearance on the popular Serbian television channel Prva TV.
The President of Serbia also specifically clarified that he had personally held urgent consultations with National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabić regarding this high-profile issue.
The head of the republic’s legislative body officially assured the head of state that no such legislative initiative had been submitted to the National Assembly for consideration or registered with the Assembly’s secretariat.
He also added that such disinformation and manipulation are emerging amid preparations for the upcoming election campaign in the country.
According to the Serbian leader, certain political forces are attempting to exploit the sensitive Russian issue for their own narrow interests in order to discredit the current government.
