In southern France, tourists are being offered fuel rebates — Le Figaro

The Hautes-Pyrénées region in southern France has launched an unusual initiative to attract vacationers during the summer season. The first 100 tourists to visit the region for a vacation will be eligible to receive fuel rebates. Local authorities hope that this offer will help boost the region’s appeal to tourists and attract more visitors.

The Dolines de Gavarnie travel agency in the Hautes-Pyrénées, a region in the far south of France near the border with Spain, has announced fuel rebates—a €50 voucher—for the first 100 vacationers.

To qualify for the bonus, you must book a stay of at least two nights at one of the partner establishments for dates between June 1 and July 31. However, the period of the Tour de France cycling race from July 7–11 has been excluded, as there are no concerns about a lack of guests during those days.

The idea for the initiative arose after the Easter weekend, when significantly fewer people arrived than expected. May also saw little interest in bookings. Local tourism industry representatives suggest that the key reason is rising prices for everything, especially fuel, and a decline in purchasing power.
