Casualties After US Strikes in Venezuela: What Is Known and Witness Accounts

ccording to Venezuelan authorities, the US strikes affected Caracas and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira. Official casualty figures have not yet been released, but initial reports and eyewitness accounts point to significant damage and human impact.

An official speaking anonymously to The New York Times said that at least 40 people may have been killed in the attacks. Donald Trump, however, stated that while a few US personnel were injured, he believed no one on the US side had been killed.

Residents described powerful blasts and structural damage. Public sector worker Linda Unamumo said the explosion was so strong that it destroyed the roof of her home. She called the experience deeply traumatic, explaining that she had to flee with her family to a neighbour’s house in fear.

Witnesses in the coastal town of Higuerote, near a local airport, also reported being jolted awake by explosions. Some initially mistook the sounds for fireworks or movement on rooftops before realising they were shockwaves from strikes in the area. People described their houses shaking and roofs rattling during the blasts.

The situation remains tense, and verified casualty data is expected once official reports are issued.
