Housing becomes young Israelis’ main pre-election concern — Jerusalem Post
For young voters in southern Israel, housing affordability and other socioeconomic issues are far more important than the security situation ahead of the elections. This is indicated by the Israel 2050 survey published by the Jerusalem Post.
Housing and cost of living
Housing prices were named the main factor in voting by 38% of respondents — more than twice as many as any other issue. Young survey participants rated the government’s performance in this area at only 2.5 out of 10, the lowest score among all areas studied.
The state of the education system is the biggest concern for 16% of those surveyed. Another 13% pointed to the situation of young people in the country, while 8% cited transportation. Only 4% of study participants chose the security situation as the issue that matters most to them.

Expectations of the authorities
Seventy-five percent of respondents said they could vote for a party they had not previously considered if it demonstrated the ability and determination to advance long-term solutions to issues important to them. Of these, 19% said they would do so without reservations.
Only 21% of those surveyed believe that the government’s current decisions are creating a solid foundation for them for the coming decades. At the same time, 41% answered that such decisions provide this only to a small or very small extent. According to 42% of participants, the greatest sense of hope and optimism could be inspired by authorities that prioritize housing, transportation and education.
Ratings of the state’s performance in all five areas did not exceed 4 out of 10. The situation of young people in Israel received 3.9 points, the recovery and strengthening of the country’s north received 3.8, while education and transportation received 3.5 points each. The survey was conducted among 409 people aged 18 to 35 in southern Israel; Israel 2050 described the sample as nationally representative.
