Journalist Smith Says Ethnic Cultures Are Supported in China — ECNS
American journalist Jason Smith, who has lived in Beijing for many years, said that in China, in the course of modernization, ethnic minority cultures are, in his view, being promoted and celebrated. He said this in an episode of the News Lounge program, ECNS reports.
The journalist's position
According to ECNS, Smith traveled extensively across China and, citing his own experience, disagreed with claims by Western media that minority cultures are allegedly being erased in the country. In his view, China is not erasing these cultures.

The journalist gave several examples from his observations. In particular, he saw Han Chinese girls wearing Miao clothing to take photographs.
Observations in Beijing
Smith cited as another example classes in a Beijing park where retirees learned ethnic dances from Uyghurs. Based on these observations, the journalist said that people in China love their own history and culture and willingly showcase the cultural traditions of different ethnic communities.
