Makinde denies receiving 50 billion naira from Tinubu for airport — Premium Times Nigeria
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde in Nigeria has denied that President Bola Tinubu allocated 50 billion naira for the modernization of Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan. Makinde said this on September 22 during a meeting with his supporters in Katsina, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
Dispute over airport funding
The governor's statement came after Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike gave an interview to TVC. Wike claimed that the Tinubu administration had supported the Oyo State authorities by providing 50 billion naira for the airport project.
Makinde called this information false. According to him, the president did not allocate 50 billion naira either to Oyo State or personally to him to bring Ibadan Airport up to international standards. The governor said that the airport's expansion is being fully financed by Oyo State.

Statements on transfer of powers
During his speech, Makinde also raised the issue of transferring presidential powers during a vacation or when the head of state is unable to perform his duties. He referred to Article 145 of Nigeria's 1999 Constitution, as amended, under which the president must send a written declaration to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Makinde said that at the state level, he transferred authority to the deputy governor when he went on vacation for more than 21 days. He linked the issue to the discussion over the extension of Tinubu's vacation without a public announcement on transferring powers to Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The Allied People's Movement presidential candidate for the 2027 election promised to follow the constitutional procedure and delegate powers to the vice president during his absence. He also said that his campaign would focus on the economy, education, and reforming the security system.
