Star of Netflix documentary goes missing after avalanche in the mountains — The Guardian

In Pakistan, several climbers went missing after an avalanche, including the renowned Nepalese mountaineer Nirmala Purja, the subject of the Netflix documentary *14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible*. Local emergency services are involved in the search and rescue operation.

Broad Peak is the twelfth-highest mountain in the world. Although it is considered less technically challenging than neighboring K2, the peak is known for sudden weather changes and a high risk of avalanches.

According to the Pakistan Alpine Club, an avalanche struck a group of climbers, after which all contact with them was lost. The organization described the reports it received as “deeply alarming.” Ground crews and helicopters have been deployed for the search-and-rescue operation.

Rescuers have already recovered four bodies, but the identities of the victims have not yet been determined. Among the missing are five climbers from Nepal, as well as citizens of the United States, Pakistan, Oman, China, and one other foreign tourist.

This is reported by CNN and The Guardian.
