Landslides after heavy rain damage buildings and block road in Haripur
In Pakistan’s Haripur district, heavy rain on Wednesday morning caused landslides that damaged buildings and blocked Amazai Road near the village of Kalilaar. According to local residents and police, debris of soil and rocks had not yet been cleared from the road at the time of reporting. There were no fatalities.
As Dawn reports, landslides and a lightning strike damaged schools, a police station, and a rural health center in the Nara-Amazai and Baitgali councils. Flooding was also reported in several localities.
Damage to a school and police station
According to community activist Saqib Khan Yousafzai, a mass of soil and rocks that came down from a slope damaged the boundary wall and a recently built room of a government primary school. Attendance at the school was low because the access road was blocked, and students who managed to reach the institution were sent home over fears of further rain.

In Nara-Amazai, the boundary wall of a neighboring rural health center collapsed onto the police station, damaging its boundary wall and three toilets. Station chief Saeedur Rehman Khan confirmed damage to the police facility and schools.
Lightning strike
Former village council chairman Qari Noor Hussain Tanoli said that at around 3 a.m., lightning struck the home of Bilal Hussain in the village of Dambra-Lakab. It damaged one room, but the family was unharmed as they were sleeping in an adjacent room.
