Pakistani actress Hania Aamir criticized content creators who use women’s appearance, age, personal lives, faces and bodies as material for jokes. In Instagram Stories, she said such remarks cannot be justified either as humor or as a personal opinion.
Responsibility of content creators
Aamir stressed that there is a clear line between commentary and turning a woman’s life into content. According to her, words have consequences, especially when they are spoken by a person with an audience, as this affects other people’s ideas of what is normal, funny and acceptable.
The actress also drew attention to the audience’s responsibility. She urged people not to support with attention and views content in which women are turned into a spectacle for entertainment, Dawn reports.

Reactions to bullying of women
Aamir stated that women are not public property and that their bodies and faces should not be subjects of public discussion. She added that society cannot demand better treatment of women while rewarding the behavior it opposes.
The actress did not specify whom exactly her remarks concerned. This week, Indian actress Katrina Kaif faced severe trolling after her first public appearance since giving birth to her son in November. In Pakistan, actresses Zhalay Sarhadi and Amna Ilyas have also spoken out against online critics whose content is aimed at humiliating and controlling women.
