Taylor Swift dedicated her Video of the Year award for the music video “The Fate of Ophelia” to the late Dolly Parton at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. As Rolling Stone reports, the singer wrote and directed the video for the song from her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, herself.

In her speech, Swift thanked fans for voting and said she was proud of the work on the video. According to her, she wanted the clip to create the impression of a single continuous shot, so she studied ways to conceal editing cuts.

The singer also acknowledged choreographer Mandy Moore, production designer Ethan Tobman, cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, and editor Chancler Haynes, who worked on the video.

Swift called Parton “the perfect showwoman” and said her songs stood out for their vivid and meaningful storytelling. According to the artist, listening to Parton’s songs is like watching the best music video every time.

She also recalled that Parton treated her career and fans with dignity, joy, love, and gratitude. Swift added that she was a fan of Parton and believes people are fortunate to have lived at the same time as her.

On Friday, Swift released an expanded version of Showgirl, which includes four tracks. “Patient Zero” was released as a single; its video, presented at the VMAs, was filmed with Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell.
