Pakistani actress Mahira Khan marks 15 years of Humsafar — Dawn

Pakistani actress Mahira Khan marked the 15th anniversary of the series Humsafar by posting a video on Instagram that combined two moments from her career. The clip juxtaposes a scene in which she twirls as Khirad in the 2011 drama with a similar moment from the new series Mitti De Baway, where the actress plays Bilqees Bano.

In the post, Khan addressed her fans, calling them her dearest “humsafars,” and wrote about 15 years of love and twirling in that love. She noted that Mitti De Baway was released on the same day that Humsafar first aired 15 years ago. The actress also thanked her supporters for their unwavering support.

The Humsafar series

As Dawn reports, Humsafar is based on a novel by Farhat Ishtiaq. The story follows cousins Khirad and Ashar, played by Fawad Khan. After an arranged marriage, they go through separation and heartbreak before eventually finding their way back to each other.

The drama gained popularity in Pakistan and beyond. The role of Khirad made Mahira Khan widely known, while Fawad Khan later appeared in the Hindi films Khoobsurat, Kapoor & Sons and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Following the series’ success, director Sarmad Khoosat made the films Manto, Zindagi Tamasha and Lali.

The actress’s new role

The new series Mitti De Baway, set in Punjab, was released this month. In it, Khan plays Bilqees Bano alongside Wahaj Ali. According to the publication, the drama’s first episodes received positive reviews.

Earlier this month, the 41-year-old actress also announced during an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival that she is expecting her second child. Her older son, Azlan, is 17 years old.
