In Lebanon, Lebanese-French actress Stéphanie Atala, who lives in Beirut, has completed a screenplay that she hopes to bring to the screen. It will tell a love story, be set in Beirut, and feature elements of fantasy or magical realism, The National reports.
The 32-year-old Atala said the screenplay is inspired by her life, her experience of living in Lebanon and the region, as well as some events from the life of her husband, musician Zef. According to the actress, the screenplay combines her personal experience with themes she wants to explore. Atala describes herself primarily as a storyteller, and acting, music and writing as different forms of that pursuit.
From commercials to television series
Atala's career began when, at the age of four, she accidentally appeared in a commercial being filmed in a restaurant. She later studied art direction at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts. After appearing in short films, Lebanese actor and director Georges Khabbaz invited her to audition for his play and cast her in a role. That same week, Atala auditioned for a television series for Ramadan and also got a role.

A turning point for the actress was the 90-episode drama series Crystal, released in 2023. The publication notes that the project topped the MBC Shahid platform's rankings and made Atala known to a wide audience in the Arab world.
Work in other countries
Atala has worked on projects in Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, Morocco, Cyprus and the UAE. She also spent several months in Paris filming the French HBO series Privileges. Despite having French citizenship through her mother, the actress decided not to move from Beirut.
At present, Atala is filming in Egypt and is then due to work on another series in Beirut. She noted that popularity increases responsibility, and viewers often address her by the names of her characters, including Fay and Mirna.
