John Deere tests AI assistant for farmers — The Verge
John Deere is testing the JD AI assistant with select customers in the United States. The tool is available through an early access program in the John Deere Operations Center and is intended to answer farmers’ questions using data about their fields, equipment, and work operations.
Recommendations based on farm data
According to The Verge, John Deere says JD will be able to provide answers on equipment settings, fuel consumption, harvest timing, best practices, and historical trends. The company believes the assistant could help farmers increase farm profitability.
John Deere did not specify which artificial intelligence technology the platform uses. The company plans to expand JD more broadly in its web version and mobile apps, and later to displays in the cabs of tractors and other agricultural machinery.

Terms for using farmers’ data
Alongside the testing, John Deere reiterated its commitments regarding farmers’ data. The company says it does not sell farm data and uses it only in accordance with agreements and policies. Users can independently decide which third parties to grant access to their data and can stop transferring information to such parties at any time.
John Deere also says it uses farmers’ data, as well as aggregated and anonymized data, to improve equipment performance and develop recommendations for decision-making. The company notes that it does not use farm data for agricultural commodity trading or speculation in that market.
In the future, the manufacturer plans to add AI assistant capabilities for customers in lawn care, construction, roadwork, and forestry.
