Oil refining in Russia has fallen to its lowest level since 2002 – Bloomberg
As a result of a series of attacks by Ukrainian drones, oil refining volumes in Russia fell to 3.6 million barrels per day in July, the lowest level since May 2002. This is about one-third below the seasonal average, which ranged from 5.3 to 5.6 million barrels per day between 2020 and 2025.
Over the past month, 18 Russian oil refineries came under attack, including the Omsk Refinery, located more than 2,500 km from the Ukrainian border. In addition, five large tankers, five port infrastructure facilities, and two pipelines were attacked.
According to analysts’ estimates, the future of the Russian oil industry will depend on the intensity of drone attacks, as Russia’s attempts to strengthen its air defense systems are unable to fully protect key facilities.

As a reminder, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck an aircraft plant in Yevpatoria, the port of Taman, and the Volgograd Oil Refinery.
Drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine struck four Russian radar stations in the Krasnodar Krai. Three oil refineries in Ufa, located approximately 1,600 km from the Ukrainian border, were also targeted.
