Klymenko made his first statement following his appointment as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council
Ihor Klymenko, the newly appointed Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, outlined his main priorities in his new position. He stated that his work will be focused on a common goal—strengthening national security and protecting citizens.
“By decree of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, I have been appointed Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. I am grateful for the high level of trust placed in me during this critical period for the country. Ahead lies a great responsibility and a great deal of work to strengthen the state’s internal resilience,” the statement reads.
Among his top priorities, Klymenko listed:
Unity of action. Synchronized work, clear coordination, and the prompt exchange of information among all components of the security and defense sector.
Monitoring the implementation of decisions. “Conducting a thorough audit of the implementation of decisions adopted by the National Security and Defense Council and systematically monitoring their execution. Decisions must not remain on paper but must be fully implemented within the specified timeframes,” Klymenko emphasized.
Strategic forecasting. “Risk analysis, early warning, and rapid response to new security challenges—from the situation on the front lines to the protection of critical infrastructure, cyberspace, and countering disinformation,” the secretary added.
“The resilience of the state is built through the daily, coordinated efforts of every agency and every specialist. I thank everyone who stays the course. We are working toward a single goal—the security of Ukraine and the protection of its people,” Klymenko concluded.

Following a court ruling, the Cabinet of Ministers reinstated Klymenko as deputy head of the State Film Agency and is required to pay him 1 million hryvnia in back pay.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko commented on whether Kyiv residents should leave the city amid rumors of new large-scale attacks by Russia and a possible threat of an offensive from the north.
Klymenko proposed creating an independent expert body to handle high-level corruption cases.
