Corruption charges have been brought against the former prime minister of Lithuania following the lifting of his immunity

Former Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has been formally charged with corruption after the Seimas voted to lift his parliamentary immunity.

This was reported by LRT.

As noted, on Friday, April 24, the Lithuanian Prosecutor General’s Office announced that the politician is under suspicion in a corruption case involving the State Plant Protection Service, in which he is one of the suspects.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Special Investigation Service, there are grounds to believe that Skvernelis received bribes totaling at least 51,000 euros for facilitating the agency’s activities through his then-advisor Agnė Siličkienė.

Investigators are also considering the possibility that the politician may have been aware of the potentially illegal origin of these funds.

Earlier, the Greek parliament approved the lifting of parliamentary immunity for 13 members of the ruling New Democracy party in a case involving possible fraud involving EU funds.
