European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has called on EU countries to officially open all negotiation chapters regarding Ukraine and Moldova’s accession to the European Union by this summer. According to her, the first negotiation chapter could be launched as early as during Cyprus’s EU presidency.
This was reported with reference to her post on social media platform X. According to Kos, she made this appeal in Brussels before the start of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
"The first cluster can be opened during Cyprus’s presidency, and as for the remaining five clusters, we hope to be able to do so in July," she emphasized.
The European Commissioner also reported that a high-level meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, whom Russia illegally took from the occupied territories, is taking place in Brussels.
Kos noted that the meeting was organized jointly with Canada and Ukraine. Representatives from nearly 60 countries are participating.
During the meeting, the parties plan to discuss three key issues: the return of Ukrainian children, support for the children and their families after their return, and mechanisms to hold Russia accountable.
"You know, war has many faces, but the abduction of children is truly one of the most horrific, and we must stop it, and Russia must pay," the European Commissioner emphasized.
