Who Do Poles Blame for the Escalation with Ukraine? – A Poll

\Nearly half of respondents in Poland hold Ukraine responsible for the escalation of the conflict between Warsaw and Kyiv. This is according to the results of a survey conducted by the SW Research agency.

According to the published data, 46.6% of survey participants indicated that the Ukrainian side is responsible for the deterioration of diplomatic relations. At the same time, 25.4% of those surveyed believe that both countries are to blame for the tensions, while only 12.7% of respondents held Poland solely responsible.

The remaining respondents were divided between those who did not have a clear opinion on the matter (11.4%) and those who had not heard of any disputes between the countries at all (4%). According to representatives of the research company, men are significantly more likely than women to attribute the problems to Kyiv’s actions, with 54% versus 39%, respectively. This view is shared by the majority of citizens with average incomes and residents of major Polish cities.

The sociological survey was conducted among adult users of a specialized online platform between June 30 and July 1, 2026. In total, analysts surveyed 800 internet users.

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent the Order of the White Eagle to Poland via “Nova Poshta.”

The decision to revoke Poland’s highest state award, the Order of the White Eagle, from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not a unilateral act by the president. Under Polish procedure, the president may initiate the revocation of an award, but the corresponding act requires the countersignature of the Polish prime minister.

In response to the Polish president’s actions, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga stated that he would return his state award to Poland.

Dnipro Mayor Boris Filatov reacted to Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s decision to revoke Poland’s highest state award, the Order of the White Eagle, from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He called the Polish leader a liar and a manipulator.

Oleg Tyahnybok, leader of the All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda,” recalled the events in the village of Sahryn—now a village in the Lublin Voivodeship of Poland—where between 600 and 1,240 Ukrainians were killed and tortured in March 1944.
