A parliamentary committee rejected a resolution to dismiss Interior Minister Klymenko
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement did not support the motion calling for the resignation of Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. The draft resolution was submitted following a terrorist attack in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital and received support only from the document’s author, Yulia Yatsyk.
According to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, 16 committee members voted against the dismissal of the minister, while one parliamentarian abstained. Ihor Klymenko continues to head the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a position he has held since 2023. The rejection of the resolution by the relevant committee effectively halts the process of considering the personnel issue in the plenary hall.
The security situation in Kyiv and the activities of law enforcement agencies remain under close scrutiny by the public and lawmakers amid Russia’s full-scale aggression. Despite criticism from some politicians, the majority of committee members expressed confidence in the current leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The committee’s decision confirms the stability of the management hierarchy in the law enforcement sector at this stage.
It should be noted that the Servant of the People party opposed the resignationof the Minister of Internal Affairs following the terrorist attack in Kyiv.
Prior to this, a draft resolution regarding the Minister of Internal Affairs was registered in the Verkhovna Rada. Draft Resolution No. 15185 dated April 21, 2026, was submitted by People’s Deputies Yulia Yatsyk (independent), Serhiy Rudyk (the “For the Future” parliamentary group), and Mykola Halushko (the Servant of the People faction).
A draft resolution calling for a plenary session and the dismissal of Patrol Police Department Head Yevhen Zhukov has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada.
Patrol Police Chief Zhukov submitted his resignation following the terrorist attack in Kyiv.
