Cats do not form dependent attachments to their owners, scientists say
A new study has revealed that cats do not develop dependent attachments to their owners as dogs do. In tests, cats behaved almost the same when near their owner or a stranger, showing no particular seeking of contact. Furthermore, when their familiar person left the room, the cats’ anxiety levels barely changed.

Researchers explain these findings by the evolutionary nature of cats: they have remained independent predators and coexist with humans on equal terms without forming emotional dependence. This independence differentiates their social behaviour from that of more dependent species like dogs.
Therefore, unlike dogs, cats establish more balanced relationships with people, reflecting distinct behavioural patterns and interactions in domestic settings. This insight may lead to new approaches in understanding feline psychology and improving pet care.
