Only 11% of Europeans consider the U.S. an ally

UA NEWS 10 June 2026 16:13
Only 11% of Europeans consider the U.S. an ally

Over the past nearly two years, the number of Europeans who view the United States as an ally of Europe has halved. According to the survey results, only 11% of respondents currently hold this view.

Only 11% of Europeans surveyed view the United States as an ally—compared to 16% six months ago and 22% in November 2024.

25% view the U.S. more as a competitor or rival.

Trust in the U.S. has fallen in all countries. The only exceptions are Poland and Hungary. In particular, the perception of the U.S. is noticeably more positive among supporters of the Polish conservative party Law and Justice. Assessments are also more positive in Britain among supporters of Nigel Farage’s populist Reform UK party.

Half of those surveyed view the U.S. as a “necessary partner.”

A majority of respondents in all countries believe that the U.S. would not come to their aid if they were attacked (with the exception of supporters of PiS and Farage’s party).

At the same time, a majority in virtually all countries surveyed—except Bulgaria—believe that in the event of an attack, at least some European countries would come to their aid.

According to the European Parliament, these were the results of the latest survey by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR).
