Mátyás set a condition for opening negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated that Budapest would agree to open the first round of negotiations only on the condition that the linguistic and cultural rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia are guaranteed.

This was reported by European Truth.

During a press conference in Poland, Magyar noted that technical consultations with Kyiv on this issue have already begun. He emphasized that fulfilling these requirements is a sine qua non, since this stage of integration concerns the rule of law and democracy, and the formation of the new “Tisa” government provides an opportunity to restart relations between the countries.

Earlier, Péter Magyar stated that the issue of returning the frozen Ukrainian funds of Oschadbank would only be subject to negotiations after the new government is officially formed.

Hungary’s new Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the city of Berehove, Zakarpattia Oblast, in early June. The Hungarian leader plans to discuss issues related to national minorities during these first official contacts
