Europe is secretly drawing up military plans without consulting the U.S. – The Economist
A number of European countries have begun preparing for a scenario in which the U.S. might withdraw from NATO or block the alliance’s collective defense.
This is reported by The Economist.
The impetus for developing a “Plan B” came from Donald Trump’s January threats to annex Greenland and his decision, twice in one month, to cancel the deployment of U.S. troops in Europe due to a lack of European support for U.S. actions regarding Iran. The focus of the alternative defense structure is a coalition of the Baltic states, Scandinavia, and Poland, and the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) led by the United Kingdom—which has its own nuclear deterrent and is capable of acting without a general NATO consensus—is considered the most realistic replacement for U.S. command in the north.
Russia could attack Europe when China invades Taiwan, according to the NATO Secretary General.
Dictator Putin, ahead of a meeting with a U.S. delegation comprising U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, stated that Russia is allegedly ready to go to war with Europe but has no such intention.
In the event of a Russian attack on NATO members, the Alliance could launch a preemptive strike against targets on Russian territory, according to NATO Military Committee Chairman Admiral Rob Bauer.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy considers it entirely possible that Russia could open a second front against another European country even before the war in Ukraine ends.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Russian army could attack a NATO member state within the next five years. This would test the Alliance’s resilience.
