The Russian Ministry of Defense boasted about a massive strike on Ukraine, but made no mention of the killings
On the morning of August 20, the Russian Ministry of Defense effectively confirmed that Russian troops had launched yet another massive strike against Ukraine.
The post was accompanied by a cynical caption: “We’re firing in volleys.” Separately, the Russian ministry added a comment: “We’re presenting compelling arguments.”
The Russian Ministry of Defense also explicitly stated that on the night of August 20, the Russian army carried out a massive strike against Ukraine.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the attack involved the use of high-precision ground-, air-, and sea-based weapons, as well as long-range strike drones.
The Russians released a list of sites in Kyiv and the Kyiv region that they identified as military targets. However, there is no independent confirmation of the Russian Ministry of Defense’s claims.
Furthermore, the Russian ministry made no mention of the impact of the strike on Ukraine’s civilian population.
As a result of the Russian attack, 13 Ukrainian civilians were killed, and dozens more were wounded.
In its statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense made no mention of the civilian casualties; instead, it effectively portrayed the massive bombardment as a demonstration of military strength.
The Russian ministry also claimed that on the night of August 19–20, Ukraine attacked Russian territory with hundreds of drones.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, its air defense forces allegedly “neutralized” 726 aerial targets.
On its Telegram channel, the Russian Ministry of Defense published photographs of missile launches from Russian ships on the high seas.
On the night of August 20, Russian forces launched a massive missile and drone strike on Kyiv. As a result of the attack, a missile struck a high-rise building in the Solomyanskyi district, where a massive fire broke out.
Air defense forces intercepted 39 cruise missiles, two “Banderol” missiles, and 145 drones used by Russian forces to attack Ukraine beginning on the evening of August 19.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia had been preparing for a massive attack for a long time, combining various types of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and attack drones to inflict maximum damage on civilian infrastructure.
Kyiv and Brovary were the main targets of the Russian attack.
