To construct a new overpass near the "Chernihivska" metro station, the contractor dismantled the old beams of the superstructure and manufactured new ones at its own production facilities.
This was reported by the Dniprovskyi District State Administration.
Production of the bridge spans for the future overpass in Kyiv is underway at the contractor’s steel fabrication plant.
Eight pairs of 21-meter-long steel beams and 16 pairs of 16.2-meter-long beams are being manufactured for the project.
The contractor notes that the overpass design was developed with complex engineering conditions in mind: it is necessary to ensure traffic clearance on Brovarsky Avenue while also accounting for height and length restrictions on the structure from the side of the metro station.
“That is why a non-standard bridge layout was chosen: the central span is 36 m, and the end spans are 8 m each. The beams are made with reduced height and a curved lower chord (from 1.14 m in the middle to 1.54 m above the intermediate supports), which allows the structure to fit within the existing clearance with minimal raising of the embankment on the approaches,” the company reported.
After reconstruction, the overpass will be significantly widened and lengthened:
the width will increase from 34.8 m to 44.68 m;
the length will increase from 46.8 m to 54 m;
the renovated structure will have 8 lanes of traffic (4 in each direction),
two tram tracks,
sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides.
The company emphasizes the advantages of having its own production facilities: manufacturing such structures is a complex technological process that requires working with thick metal plates, special welding modes, and strict adherence to technology at every stage.
All work is carried out under the scientific supervision of the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute, which develops technological solutions for welded joints and monitors the quality of their execution.
Prior to this, the contractors completed the dismantling of the old overpass structure near the “Chernihivska” metro station. Bridge construction crews dismantled, in particular, the central span and the main supports of the overpass. Dismantling of the span from the side of Myropilska Street is ongoing.
During the work, the critical level of wear and tear on the structure was confirmed once again: the reinforcing bars of the supports and the beams of the superstructure had suffered significant corrosion, which directly affected the load-bearing capacity of the structures.
Simultaneously with the dismantling, preparations are underway for pile driving and the installation of new support piers. The fabrication of reinforcement cages and the installation of a storm drainage system are also being carried out at the site.
Work at the site continues 24/7. The plan is to restore car and tram traffic on the overpass and Brovarsky Avenue as early as November of this year, with the project scheduled for full completion in 2027.
