In the Zhytomyr region, a teenager suffered severe burns after being electrocuted on the roof of a train

In the Zhytomyr region, law enforcement officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the serious injury of a 15-year-old teenager on the railroad tracks. The incident occurred on the evening of May 29 near the train station in the Stanyshiv community. The boy climbed onto the roof of a freight train, where he was struck by high-voltage electricity and fell to the ground.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Zhytomyr region.

A report about the injury of a minor resident of the Novohuyvynska community was received by the police dispatch center around 9:15 p.m. An investigative team from Police Department No. 1 of the Zhytomyr District Administration was promptly dispatched to the scene. Medical personnel hospitalized the injured teenager, where he was diagnosed with severe thermal burns and multiple bone fractures sustained as a result of falling from the height of the train car.

Investigators have opened a criminal case under Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (negligent infliction of serious or moderate bodily injury). Law enforcement officials once again issued a stern warning to young people not to risk their health and lives for the sake of extreme thrills or creating content for social media. They reminded the public that the railway overhead contact line is constantly under extremely high voltage, and a fatal electric shock can occur even without direct physical contact with the wires—due to the formation of an electric arc. The police also urged parents to keep a closer eye on their children’s activities and regularly talk to them about safe behavior near critical infrastructure.

In Kyiv, a person died on the roof of an electric train after reportedly climbing onto the car and being fatally electrocuted.

In the Kyiv region, a 14-year-old boy was electrocuted after climbing onto the roof of an electric train and grabbing a pantograph.

In the village of Verba, located in the Dubno district of Rivne region, two boys aged 14 and 15 were electrocuted after climbing onto the roof of a freight train that was standing at the station.
